RETHINKING STUFFThe current consumption-based, marketing-saturated culture tells us that the key to life is stuff – more and more stuff.
But stuff alone does not make a fulfilled life. “Retail therapy” is no real therapy at all. And we know it. Moreover, while millions are buried in more stuff than they will ever use, other millions of people do not have even the basic necessities of adequate food, clothing, shelter. Meanwhile our planet is awash in human stuff, and associated waste. At the current rate by 2050 our oceans will actually have more plastic waste, by weight, than fish. Ecosystems and wildlife all across the globe are being destroyed due to human trash. Rethinking our relationship to stuff, to material things is one of the greatest challenges and necessary steps for the human species at this point in our evolution. |
